Features & Benefits

The SCA provides reliable, linear and accurate results with less variability than manual methods, giving higher predictive values when diagnosing fertility problems.

This is one of the most complete CASA systems with several editions, additional modules and complementary systems.

With the aim of improvement and development, the SCA has an annual maintenance service.
We offer an External Quality Control service for SCA users, with the assistance of collaborators with considerable experience in Computer Aided Semen Analysis over the last 20 years.

The SCA is adapted to the last WHO laboratory manual for the examination and processing of human semen (WHO6).

Available Software Modules

Since its launch in 1997, the SCA sperm analyser has been in continuous development, improving with each version the detection and analysis algorithms.

Sperm Functional Test

Automatic analysis of hyperactive and mucus penetration, information about sperms capacity to fertilize the egg.

Diagnostic and Treatment

Automatically provides a diagnosis and recommends the best assisted reproduction treatment to follow.

Customized reports service

More than 40 different reports, including Levy-Jennings report for quality control.

Laboratory Information System (LIS) connectivity

SCA is ready to connect with existing databases.

Motility and Concentration

Automatic analysis of the sperm motility and concentration (sperm count) in a human semen sample. Progressive sperm motility is extensively known to be related to pregnancy rates.

Morphology

Permits the automatic morphometry analysis and morphology classification of human stained sperm samples observed in brightfield microscopy.

DNA Fragmentation

SCA DNA Fragmentation is a module for the counting of DNA fragmented and non-fragmented spermatozoa, in human samples treated with kits based on the Sperm Chromatin Dispersion (SCD).

Vitality

SCA Vitality is a module that automatically provides the percentage of live and dead spermatozoa in a human semen sample.

Sperm Vitality is estimated by assessing the membrane integrity of the cells, and is fundamental for samples having less than 40% progressive motile spermatozoa. The percentage of the viable cells normally exceeds that of motile cells.

Acrosome Reaction

SCA Acrosome reaction is a module that automatically provides the percentage of acrosome intact and acrosome reacted spermatozoa in a human semen sample.

Acrosome reaction is one of the most important sperm functional tests.

This test measures in the first instance the percentage intact acrosomes of washed/diluted sperm samples. The next step is that we use a biological substitute to induce the acrosome reaction such as Ca++ ionophore.

Leukocytes

SCA Leukocytes is a module for the automatic analysis of human peroxidase-positive leukocytes, in samples treated with the Leukocytes slides SCA.

A semen sample is mixed with a specific substrate for the peroxidase enzyme. If there is peroxidase, the substrate containing hydrogen peroxide will be reduced. At the same time, diaminobenzidine (DAB) will be oxidized and turn into an insoluble brown product.

Applications

The SCA is a modular automatic system for the analysis of semen samples, according to pre-defined criteria, for most of the vertebrates (mammals, avian, reptile, amphibian and fish) and invertebrates (e.g. echinoderms and mollusks). Suitable for research, production, toxicology centers and universities.

Features & Benefits

The SCA allows the accurate and objective analysis of a wide range of sperm kinematics, morphological, DNA and vitality parameters, as well as defining new analysis settings that adapt to new animal species or breeds.

It greatly improves the ability of the laboratory to accurately analyze motility sequences for motility analysis and sperm images for morphology, DNA fragmentation, vitality and acrosome reaction. Measurement errors due to human factors are minimized in the analysis of animal sperm.

The laptop configuration allows the SCA to be transported almost anywhere in the field, enabling e.g. animal fertility studies in situ, during the breeding season.

With the aim of improvement and development, the SCA has an annual maintenance service.

DNA Fragmentation

SCA DNA Fragmentation is a module for the automatic counting of DNA fragmented and non-fragmented spermatozoa, in animal samples treated with kits based in the Sperm Chromatin Dispersion (SCD).

DNA fragmentation represents a distinguish mark of apoptosis, and is usually associated with structural changes in cellular morphology.

SCA Production CASA system

The SCA Production is an intuitive CASA system for animal semen production centres that automatically provides the number of optimal doses that can be obtained. Designed for boar, bull or horse.

Suitable for AI Stations, Animal breeders, Extender manufacturing companies or any centre producing semen doses or straws that are analysing the semen samples in a rapid way.

Motility & concentration, as well as droplets and coiled tails can be rapidly and automatically analysed. Also, acrosome integrity can be automatically analysed.
